The Olympic Wedding Torch - Home

The Olympic Wedding Torch is the slightly off-kilter idea of Nicky Kilford and Mark Kelly who are getting married at Beverley Minster in September. Between them they have come up with an unusual and unique idea which was inspired by the Olympic Torch Relay.

To celebrate their Wedding, they have bought their own Olympic Wedding Torch. But this isn't any old Olympic Torch ~ this one comes with a beam, and two batteries (which, incidentally, came in the price). The torch has been put it in a box, complete with an instruction sheet , and sent it off on it's own little magical mystery tour. The torch, engraved with the words 'Nicky & Mark's Olympic Wedding Torch', began its journey when handed over to their friend Richard Johnson who lives in Bolton, Lancashire, who photographed in and around his home town.

The aim is for the torch to be passed from Richard to another torch bearer who will photograph the torch at a landmark site or town signpost and then pass the torch on to someone else, and so on, and so on. Eventually the torch will lose all connection with its origins and go off on a journey of its own. Each photograph will be either sent by text or e-mail to Mark & Nicky and uploaded to the Facebook Group 'The Olympic Wedding Torch' for all to follow.

As the torch, hopefully, moves from person to person, they will have absolutely no idea where it will travel to, how far it will go, or where it will end up. They hope that whoever receives the torch during the last week in August will send it back to their home in Laughton Road, Beverley, East Yorkshire in time for their Wedding Day on Saturday 1st September. The couple will then cover any expense of returning the torch to Beverley from wherever it ends up, and hopefully it's path will be charted in an album for all Wedding guests to browse through at their reception.

Check out the pages on this site to follow the journey of the torch, to find out more about Nicky and Mark and the torch, where it is now and how to contact Nicky and Mark (especially if you're the last person to have the torch in August and wish to return it).
